Summary description of agroecological practice

We cultivate an intensive bush berry, pome and stone fruit orchard of 70 ares. In addition, we currently have 85 standard trees growing, 65 of which were planted in 2006. In these new plantings, we mainly planted old varieties in order to preserve these valuable, mostly robust varieties. We have planted the 90 meter long connecting hedge from the forest to the railway line with fruit-bearing wild fruit varieties, here there are local rarities as well as varieties bred for large fruit or rich in vitamins from the former Eastern Bloc. During the Cold War, a “gene reservoir” was maintained/created in these countries, which also plays an important role in organic cultivation of pome fruit. In these regions, breeding for resilience had to continue because no synthetic pesticides were available.
