Purple Pear Farm

Purple Pear Farm

Australia

Short description of your place and practices

Purple Pear Farm in Anambah, New South Wales, is a living example of agroecology and permaculture in action. On this 14-acre biodynamic farm, Mark Brown and Kate Beveridge have created an integrated landscape where soil, plants, animals, and people coexist in balance. Circular mandala gardens, food forests, and rotational animal systems demonstrate ecological design principles that regenerate soil health, increase biodiversity, and provide nutrient-rich food for the local community. Each element supports the others — from chickens enriching the garden beds to fruit trees shading vegetable patches — forming a resilient, self-sustaining ecosystem inspired by nature itself.

Beyond production, Purple Pear Farm serves as a vibrant learning hub for agroecology and permaculture education. Workshops, farm tours, and community-supported agriculture programs connect visitors with the principles of local food sovereignty and ecological stewardship. The farm embodies a philosophy of small-scale, community-driven resilience, encouraging others to adopt regenerative practices in their own backyards and communities. Here, farming is not just about growing food — it’s about cultivating harmony, knowledge, and connection with the Earth.

Details of the farming system

The main purpose of our farm is to cultivate life in all its forms — nourishing people, soil, and community through agroecological and permaculture principles. We aim to produce healthy, diverse, and chemical-free food while regenerating the land and restoring ecological balance. Every action we take, from planting and composting to caring for animals, is guided by the goal of creating a resilient ecosystem that supports both nature and human well-being.

What is your dream for the future of your farm and/or your location in general?

Our dream for the future of our farm is to deepen its role as a living example of regenerative agroecology and permaculture in practice — a place where nature and community thrive together. We envision a landscape that continues to heal the soil, restore biodiversity, and produce healthy, abundant food while serving as a refuge for people seeking connection with the land. We want every tree, plant, and animal here to be part of a thriving web of life, where nothing is wasted, and every cycle feeds another.

Beyond our boundaries, our dream extends to a network of farms and communities embracing agroecological principles — collaborating, exchanging knowledge, and building local food sovereignty. We hope our location becomes a space for learning and inspiration, where children, farmers, and neighbors come together to co-create a future rooted in care, cooperation, and respect for the Earth. In this vision, farming is not only a livelihood but a collective act of regeneration and hope for generations to come.
