Caroebe - Vicinal 11 - Estado de Roraima

The project “Technology Implementation in Family Farming Areas in Caroebe, RR” aimed to introduce Agroforestry Systems (AFS) in the Caroebe region of Roraima to diversify agricultural production and improve environmental sustainability. Led by Embrapa Roraima in partnership with the Cooperativa de Agricultores e Agricultores Familiares do Caroebe (Cooparfac), the project sought to improve the practices of local farmers by providing them with the tools and knowledge to adopt sustainable agroecological methods.

The initiative involved training farmers through a combination of theoretical classes and practical activities. The main components of the project included the construction of nurseries for seedling production and the selection of appropriate areas for planting. The approach, which emphasized collaborative learning (“doing it together”), allowed farmers to directly engage with the technologies and actively engage in the adoption of AFS.

As a result, the project led to significant improvements in economic and environmental outcomes for participants. Farmers reported increased income and expressed a desire to expand their AFS areas. Furthermore, the project created a local knowledge-sharing network, where farmers became ambassadors of the technologies, spreading the practice to other producers. This highlights the power of technology transfer and knowledge building in fostering sustainable agricultural practices within smallholder farming communities.
