The Food Farm

The Food Farm

Short description of your place and practices

The Food Farm is a 16 acre organic small farm in the Waipara Valley, North Canterbury New Zealand.

Our property has been designed using permaculture principles and we produce most of our own food.

We help people achieve their food-growing goals. We're based on our organic permaculture property in North Canterbury, Aotearoa NZ.

We grow organically. This means we use no chemical fertilisers, herbicides, fungicides or insecticides. We have been certified with BioGro in the past, but while we are only selling a small amount of food and not exporting it’s not economically viable to pay for the auditing process. We are looking at other certifiers currently and will step back into certification when we are able. We grow annual and perennial vegetables. We also grow berries and tree crops. We have a young Food Forest, a traditional orchard and espaliered fruit trees. We have Wiltshire sheep, Pekin Ducks, Wessex Saddleback pigs, Cob500 meat chickens, and Barred Rock and Brown Shaver laying hens. We have Jersey milking cows and honey bees! Where we can we use heirloom seeds which we’ve saved ourselves.
